My sister-in-law has a collection of more than 2000 vintage cross stitch patterns. She stores them in a small room but now that her son needs the room, she needed to de-clutter. But dumping the old patterns was not an option. She wanted them to go to someone who would love them as much as she did. She tried selling them at a flea market, but people were not interested and those who were only wanted to pay a dime.
She knew that there were other crafters out there who would love to have the patterns, she just had to find them. That’s when I suggested putting up a blog to showcase her vintage patterns and start selling her collection online. She started with a free blog and later on switched to her own domain and got her own ecommerce web hosting. Over several months, she netted more than a thousand dollars, way more than she did selling at flea markets. She went from selling a handful of patterns a month to more than five a day. Now she is not only concentrating on selling patterns, some of her customers are even requesting her to sell other cross stitch materials and finished products as well.
